LETTER FROM THE OWNER
I’m sad to let go of this incredible vehicle, but it’s time for someone else to enjoy it. I wanted to share a quick explanation of why I built this van the way I did. I owned an older Sportsmobile for 10 years before buying this one, and my old van had the RB50 setup. Through years of traveling in that van with my family of four, I never stopped thinking about what the perfect setup would be for us. I’m sharing my thought process so you can see if it’s the right fit for you.
I prioritized the two rear bucket seats for two main reasons:
I loved having my kids close to the front without cabinets surrounding them in case of an accident.
We spend a lot of time driving on adventures. Having the bucket seats just behind the driver and passenger keeps everyone close together and makes long drives more enjoyable. Also rear air conditioner for the back passengers.
Windows & Views
You buy these vehicles to enjoy nature, so I wanted to make the outdoors visible from every part of the van—both while driving and hanging out at camp.
Rear Bed & Cargo System
The rear bed is removable, which is one of my favorite features.
When the bed is out, you can walk through the entire van—from front seats to the rear doors. This makes it incredibly easy to carry long items like paddleboards without needing to strap them to the roof.
When the bed is installed, there is room for:
This keeps camp setup fast, organized, and clean.
Interior Comfort & Practicality
This van has 2- grp 4D AGM batteries and 2000watt inverter. Also has a full kitchen with Isotherm refrigerator, fresh water tank and sink.
12 volt rear AC, Espar gas heater.
Electric pop top with bed and custom roof rack.
Bike, Tire & Roof Storage
On the roof, the two Pelican-style boxes—one gray and one black—were originally a test setup. I bought inexpensive used boxes from OfferUp to see if I liked the system. I ended up loving it, and Pelican now makes excellent modern boxes that would look great if the next owner wants to upgrade
Exterior Features & Off-Road Setup
Convenience and capability were my priorities:
Lighting
The van has 360-degree lighting:
When all lights are on, backing up at night feels like daytime. There are also softer camp lights on the exterior for use around camp.
