“It’s all about campfires, community, and hanging out together. It’s a wonderful way to have a great experience and enjoy people’s company.” – Mario Cabrales
Skill-Building in Real Time
From the start, participants were immersed in all things overlanding—learning how to recover vehicles, navigate unfamiliar terrain, and push past previous comfort zones.

“I loved that we got to learn how to navigate roads that normally in the past we would have turned away from. Now we have the courage and the knowledge to continue exploring these great, wonderful roads.”
– Cathy, Chula Vista, CA
And those lessons weren’t just theoretical. With experienced guides from Voyager Outdoor leading the way, our crew tackled steep climbs and uneven trails with confidence.
“My favorite part of the trip for me was the second day where we really did some serious climbing up and climbing down, with a lot of good instruction and beautiful scenery—from the almost desert plains to the beautiful pine trees. Fantastic trip.”
– Jim, Chula Vista, CA
Throughout the trip, attendees had the chance to see what their vans—and themselves—were really capable of. From p
racticing with winching gear to understanding the difference between a standard-duty tow strap and a kinetic recovery rope, it was a hands-on, dirt-under-your-fingernails kind of weekend.
Community.
One of the most rewarding parts of the trip? Watching the camaraderie grow. This wasn’t just a group of people with vans—it became a team.

“My favorite part of the trip was seeing new scenery, exploring some tough terrain, and overcoming it as a group. My van—so far so good. Only flat tire was in my wheelchair and that was an easy fix!” – Albert
What started as a group of individuals with vans quickly transformed into a tight-knit team. Participants explored new scenery, tackled tough terrain together, and supported each other through every challenge—proving that the Field Van lifestyle is about far more than just the vehicle. It’s about community, shared growth, and the magic that happens when strangers become friends on the trail. From the leadership guiding them through unfamiliar paths to the encouragement exchanged around the campfire, the sense of connection was undeniable.
