Field Van’s Latest Build: Grover Beach Police Department’s Custom Command Center

Chief Jim Monroe of the Grover Beach Police Department shares his thoughts on the new addition:

“We wanted a first-class vehicle that would be quick, nimble, and built to our exact specifications. Field Van delivered with this custom van for our drone operations, which we also use at crime scenes and major traffic accidents. The van turned out perfectly, and we couldn’t be more excited.”

The drone command center was designed on Field Van’s Range Series Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 chassis. Its off-road capability ensures the van can access difficult terrain, whether responding to emergencies on the beach or in the mountains. While this build’s primary function is to support drone operations, our team ensured its ability for a variety of law enforcement scenarios. The van also has two separate computer workstations – one in the front and one in the back – with a roll-down curtain for privacy.

Tailored Features for Grover Beach Law Enforcement

• Workstations: The two workstations allow officers to manage drone footage, complete reports, and conduct mission planning with ease. A swiveling TV allows drone operators to watch footage and hold briefings either inside or outside the van.
• Power: The van runs on a robust 1080 Ah lithium-ion battery system, ensuring all technology, radios, and devices can operate smoothly no matter the location.
• Comfort: With a 12V rooftop air conditioning unit and an Espar diesel-powered furnace, the van is equipped for use in any weather conditions, ensuring officers can stay comfortable and focused on their missions.
• Storage: Custom storage solutions were designed to keep police gear organized and secure, with lockable areas for sensitive equipment.
• Exterior Features: The van is decked out with all its necessities including; Emergency lights, a Raptor-lined hood and rocker panels for added durability, a CA-tuned front bumper with a winch for tricky situations, and a roof rack for extra storage. It also includes a roof-mounted AC unit and an attic fan to ensure ventilation during extended operations.
